Kickin' it outside the city

.Bundoora Trio: Ms DT, Ms KK & Rockband.

Living in the city can be a drag at times, as we succumb to the hasty, fast pressures of city lifestyle where everything and everyone is always on the move. You swerve and meander through walkways, attempting to avoid collision with other pedestrians. Screeching and honking of cars, echoes of tram bells, subtle thuds of footsteps.... close your eyes: what else can you hear in the city?

I have to admit: i love the city life. It's always on the move, something is always going on, always out and about, looking for the next big happening. It's almost like an addiction, a cold rush of air in the midst of a hot day. You're never bored, you're never alone, there's always something to see, to do, to hear, to feel, to taste....

But once in a while, it's good to take a break and pace yourself. Sometimes, it's good to just head out of the city for a bit of fresh air. Back in Canada, this is what i noticed most Canadians in the north did....schedules filled to the max during the weekdays as people buzz about their business like busy little humming bees but come the weekends, family packs up and heads out to the countryside to enjoy nature, what it has to offer and life.

Unfortunately, nothing of that sort can be done here in Melbourne unless you have money... but there are other things one can do to relieve oneself of the pressures of city life.

In our case, Ms DT & myself decided to join arms with Rockband and Ms KK to kick it up outside the city in Bundoora.

This dinner took place last Saturday with just a few close friends. In the midst of exam pressures and all, we decided maybe it was high time to take a small break to just sit back and
relax just for one night.

So made a few last minute phone calls to some good friends and called them over for dinner, unfortunately most couldn't make it... so it just ended up with the usual gang with Mr Silhouette, Ms SG, Rockband, his sister Ms KK and her friend. It was a nice, casual setting where dinner revolved around the Simpsons movie, hehehe... cartoon for adults.

On the menu for the night:
Roasted Honey+Basil Chicken
Lasagne
Fresh Green Salad

Had a pleasant surprise from Mr Rockband the other day: he introduced me to Myra - his new friend. An unexpected delightful surprise she turned out to be... and I mean it sincerely. Friday was her first ever outing out onto the streets of Melbourne.

The weather that given day was beautiful albeit a bit too hot, but that didn't stop us from enjoying it. So when he came down to the city, he took my sister and myself for a nice walk by the South Yarra River to bask in the sun and enjoy the scenic view of the ever-bustling city summer lifestyle.

.By the River.

Hanging out by the river, we could see that others in Melbourne had also chosen to do what we've done: come out and enjoy the sun, with many sights being seen and activities to be done. There we could see reflections casted onto the river as cyclists zoom down the walkway whilst other people chose a slower pace, strolling beyond grasses and sand - talking amongst friends and lovers, smiling and laughing in the sun.

After the nice soak in the sun, the three of us along with Myra sought out refuge and walked to Brunetti Cafe to enjoy a sip of some cold beverages. Being a Friday, we were quite surprised to see so many people out and about enjoying the day - perhaps many decided to schedule their meetings out in the sun, over a nice cold drink? I don't blame them!

It's not everyday that Melbourne gets to enjoy the luxuriously warm weather like this... added to the often smooth soft caress of the cool ocean breeze that sweeps throughout the city once in a while.

It's been a while with the updates on the blog, as of late there hasn't been much photo-taking opportunities and at the moment, it's also crunch time for the academic world with the weight of exams bearing heavily down upon us.

So a quick update of the fleeting weeks so far:

.The Get Together Open House @ Ms. Giggles.

This weekend had been quite the feasting session with last saturday having visited two open houses hosted by some of the Melbruneian students here in Melbourne. First house being in Ms Giggles' crib and several hours later moving out onto the streets of St Kilda, visiting Ms Ayu, her sisters and some of her flatmates.

Much food was available... ranging from traditional malay-style fried chicken, laksa noodles, grilled sausages, buttermilk shrimps to baked spaghetti, basil mixed veggies and many many more.
