On Melbourne's Parks and Museum

See no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil...

Mr DG & Ms DT after brunch

Despite the cold gusty winds roaming Melbourne's city streets and the occasional drizzle, the last two days have been quite good with the sun gracing the sky during dusk. Rich golden rays of sunlight burst through the clouds, colouring the skies in hues of orange, yellow, amber and purple as the sun sets in the horizon. Perfect opportunity for silhouette photography, which I'm sure Mr. Silhouette will later inform me... hehe...

Two days ago in the company of Mr Canon, Ms DT and Mr DG, we headed out to Gold an' Fork yet-again for brunch, before walking our way to Queen Vic Market: Mr DG was keen on getting some gifts for friends... Something I just noticed though after going through my previous posts, I realised I haven't quite elaborated much on what the Queen Victoria Market is about.

Manufactured-goods available at Vic Market

The Queen Victoria Market is an ever-popular Melbourne
destination for both tourists and locals alike. It's an open-aired market full of vibrant activities that will fill you with amazing sights and sounds. There, you can get almost anything and everything. From extremely cheap fresh and high-quality produce to home-made manufactured local goods, you may even find some cool aboriginal items such as boomerangs and digeridoos at affordable prices.

Even some nice handmade work for sale

Occasionally you may catch some buskers performing by the market - as Queen Victoria Market is the ideal place to experience various indigenous or arts-based performances. Just that day, we had the pleasure in experiencing Bolivian folk music - very soothing! Generally the market is divided into four separate sections: seafood & meats, baked goods & delis, produce & livestock birds and lastly commercial goods and products such as wool boots, leather belts, etc. So if you are ever in town and happen to be looking for bargains, Vic Market is your place. Open everyday except Mondays and Wednesdays.

So there we were roaming around the market looking for items of interest. Unfortunately being a weekday, there wasn't much to see. The hype usually gathers and explodes as it nears the weekend... Towards closing time, we took a quick linger about the baked goods section where we were attacked and spoilt from all corners by free samples... lucky us!! hehehe It was here that Ms DT bought some chocolate fudge and fudge brownie - UBER-delectable, I must say! - before we hung out at a nearby back alley and did some photography shoots for fun...

Park by the Melbourne Museum

That being done, we headed down the street to take the free city circle tram up east of the city where we stopped by and lingered about one of the city's many parks. It is definitely one thing I really appreciate about Melbourne: it's respect for nature and the beauty of it. Being a really nice bright day albeit cold, we hung about... walking through the grass as nearby we could hear the fade of voices screaming and gasping: there was a fitness team in session... Led on by Mr Canon, we headed over to the Melbourne museum.

I think Ms DT & Mr DG wanted to join in the fun...

The Melbourne Museum is one of the four grand museums in Melbourne, administered by the Museum Victoria - the institute that is responsible for the academic research, scientific and cultural collections of the Victorian state. The museum we visited was one that explores life in Victoria: past, present and future encompassing all aspects of life from prehistoric dinosaurs to the natural environment and social history and culture. Quite an interesting place to visit and hey, bonus: if you happen to be a student with a student card, you get in as concession for free!

We were quite dismayed that we couldn't see much of the museum during our first trip as we had arrived there late, however we went back for a second and heart-satisfying visit yesterday and it was certainly time well spent!! It was certainly a world of wonder: partially dug-up dinosaur bones, glistening rare gemstones in odd shapes and colours, humongous preserved squid, gigantic skeletal structures, perplexing black&white cubed rooms, mind mazes and much more...

Having filled our hearts, we went off to fill our stomachs with delicious food by Lygon (Melbourne's Italian district) before walking back home in the rain, feeling cold against the horrid winter weather but taking comforting warmth with the knowledge that it was two days well spent!

Even a beautiful nature trail inside the museum itself
