Yesterday afternoon marked a historical moment in the BSSMelbourne books as the founding committee members of the established student society handed down their rights to the 2008-2009 newly elected committee members.

Initiated by the former members of the BSSMelb, the AGM (annual general meeting) for the student society was held in Es Teler Restaurant's new franchise in Lygon, Melbourne. I was initially quite surprised by the big presence of Bruneian students there during the meeting., however it was good to see everyone together. It was certainly a good occassion with very little drama, as everyone sought to futher develope their friendships and foster new acquaintances with others.

Congratulations to all the newly elected committee members! I'm sure this coming year will be quite the challenge for all of us but despite it all, I certainly look forward to working with you guys with the hopes of uniting all Melbruneian students together, sharing fun & fond memories of time spent with each other.

"When the character of a man is not clear to you, look at his friends."
Japanese Proverb
Over the past few days, our social network has grown considerably at a tremendous rate: existing friendships have solidified and strengthen more as many new friendship bonds are exchanged. We keep our friends close to our hearts as we befriend acquaintances and new strangers, bringing more colourful characters into our lives.

Have a nice trip to Brunei, Mr Jewels !

I once read that life is similar to that of a painting, with each event that's happened and each person you come across in your life, they bring with them a wonderful array of colours, tones and hues into your life. Be it good or bad, as you step back to taken in the view, you are only left with one thing: a masterpiece. Life is what you make it to be.

As we carry on in this
thing often called Life, it's undoubtedly certain that we will face some of the hardest challenges in our lives. But no matter where you go, what you're doing or who you're with, one ought not forget his friends. Friends may appear and disappear in your lives, but one thing I've learnt is that their impact on your existence will always remain.

Yeah there maybe times when you seem to feel the strain on your friendship, but as I've learnt: try to be understanding. Everyone has their flaws. Aside from your point of view, try and see perspectives from theirs - maybe that may allow you to understand their faults. Understand that not everyone is the same and certainly not everyone may share the same views as yours.

To think that one is faultless is a fault on one's own, for it is egotistical.

.A Sleepless Weekend - Almost.

One can never truly realise the luxury of having one's own bed unless you've spent two nights away from it, snuggled atop of a friend's coach. That was pretty much how it has been for the last two nights and quite nearly, tonight as well.

This weekend has catapulted into a series of mini-adventures. It was quite the wild weekend: one that started with an unintentional sleep over triggered by a late night sess of non-stop ghost-flicks with the frequent food junking till the break of dawn followed by an afternoon group outing for meat supplies and a trip to delve in humongous pizzas for spoils before heading back to the city and was followed by another late session of horror ghost flicks till the next day's rising of the sun. We met up again with the group later in Caulfield during a BBQ dinner gathering.

.Bridging the Globe: RTB down under.

Folks, the last two days have been quite.... eventful, to say the least. RTB is in town so our usual weekend ritual for relaxation was temporarily thrown out of the schedule books. For those unfamiliar with the abbreviation, RTB stands for Radio Television Brunei - the one and only broadcasting centre in Brunei, managed and operated by the state. Working side by side with Shazana's Production House, they're here to document the lives of Bruneian students living abroad, specifically in Melbourne with the theme of Hari Raya celebrations.

Their presence in town has caused a considerable stir amongst the Melbruneians here. I won't blabber much on the details of what has happened so far... but, just a side note: starting the 3rd Hari Raya day, do look out for all of us Melbruneians on the local tv channel.

Now that being said, here's a preview of what's to come and some behind-the-scenes footage:

.it's a stampede.
Where's everyone rushing to??
There is something is stirring in the air. I can sense it. feel it. smell it.
Signs are everywhere but no one seems to have noticed them... yet.

This happened a long while ago. I'm quite sure the Bourke and Swanston areas were not aware of what had hit them - we came in fast and hard, leaving people panting, sweating, exhilarated for more. And just like the seductive aroma of a woman's perfume, we disappeared leaving nothing but a linger of what used to be - a faint hint of a presence. We had left in search of a safe haven against the blusterous cruel winter night as the sun began to make way for the arrival of la luna, the moon.

Breakfast @ Nila

Food, glorious food

The day began with a quick breakfast session at one of our weekly favourite hotspots: Nila Restaurant. Atmosphere and weather was to perfection as the sun's rays poured into Degraves Street, lighting up the ever-bustling alleyway. I had my companions: Ms DT, Mr Canon and the Prahran boys. Indian cuisine was to be our staple fuel of the day. Sometime after our sumptuous breakfast, we hustled over to Bourke Street to meet up with Visual Acid and Mr P before proceeding for the ultimate show down. Coincidentally on that given day, Bourke Street was busier than ever with every corner and end filled with artistic activities: music of various kinds melting together up in the air such as those by spanish guitars, country folks and what-nots.
A photo of Mr Canon back then

There was even a magic stone statue that moved each time you dropped a coin into the small box by his pedestal. Streets were flocked with family and children, curious to see the next happening - afraid to miss out on the action. All the while, the crew *who all coincidentally were wearing black* unpacked and prepared themselves for what was about to come.

Time passed and the activities in Bourke were more fervent than ever. Bourke Street was becoming jam packed by the second. When are we going to start?? Clocks ticked, nervous smiles exchanged as curious onlookers eyed us preparing our gear. Trial runs were ran on the crew members who weren't in the know as cameras were switched on and lightings were geared steady.

A silent moment passed where a small prayer for success was made quietly in our hearts amidst the chaotic bustling background of the lively, colourful shoppers street.

Finally.... it was show time.

.the reactions.

I have to say overall it was a good event. Initially I didn't know what to expect, but there was a good crowd; curiosity and interest was high. Photo opportunity was a dime in a million. It was certainly a memorable event with a memorable crowd. If you want to find out what happened... well, i can't.
