Just yesterday, I wanted to go out for some fresh air and decided to travel up to Sydney Road, dragging along Ms DT and Mr DG, who unfortunately was voiceless for the day due to a severe cold. Our stop? The Balha's Pastry House. In this store, a mouth-watering array of Arabic pastries are available. My personal favourite happens to be the walnut baklava, whilst Ms DT and many other people I know crave for the house's soft, creamy kunafa.
Creamy, Soft & Sweet: Rosewater Kunafa
Now for those of you unfamiliar with Arabic pastries, these are considered the deserts of the Middle East. Usually when someone mentions deserts, we normally think of cakes, ice creams, fruits and such as most of us are quite used to the concept. However in the Middle East, deserts are usually in the form of pastries: layers above layers of buttered filo dough stuffed with nuts, spices or dates then baked to an aromatic fluffy perfection and sweetened by a syrup concoction of either honey or sugar. Sound delicious, doesn't it?
So for those who ever plan on dropping by Melbourne or just happened to be in Sydney Road and would like to something to satisfy their sweet cravings, try this place.

Another desert house of interest, and this may delight the cupcake lovers, is the Little Cupcake Store nestled within the confines of Degraves Street. Just like the desert they serve itself, the little cute store is sublimely simple and sweetly decorated with pastel colours of sorts. It sort of reminds me of a little ballerina store - whenever I think of cupcakes... i think of a little ballerina with her tutu, sitting by the window sill licking the icing of a cupcake... haha don't ask me why. Anywayz, back to the topic... Although price wise, it may be a bit much (AU$3-AU$4)... the desert is immensely popular among the locals.
