A Busy Weekend, Indeed!

Nyum nyum nyum! Believe it or not, I made these babies!
And I'm so proud of them!!

It didn't even last the night:
a few minutes after I took them out, the tray was wiped clean!
Woot! Woot!

One of the latest few additions to the Vanilla Kitchen bakery that we've introduced lately. To find out more, you can check out our website here: Vanilla Kitchen.

This dinner happened sometime last weekend - a family get together to celebrate my grandaunt's birthday. She wasn't expecting it and that was the best part! The look of surprise on her face when my little cousins came out of the kitchen holding two cakes from Le Apple (we would've offered to bake some delectables from the Vanilla Kitchen but unfortunately we didn't have the time to due to a fully-booked schedule to meet some cupcake orders for a wedding).

The surprise look on my grandaunt Sarah's face.

Originally the event was supposed to take place at my house but unfortunately the torrid unexpected wind and intense combination of rain, thunder and lightening had caused one of the main wires in the house to snap and we were without electricity for the rest of the night.

Luckily we had the family road trip the following day, so that meant we weren't stuck in a powerless house waiting for the electrician to come.

So here was the birthday surprise party for my grandaunt, Sarah came over with her daughter and grandchildren to spend a few days in Brunei from Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. My second cousins wanted to join in the fun with cutting the birthday cake, as you can tell in the picture below :)

As I stated earlier on, we had no electricity in our house so a last minute decision was made to move the venue to one of my aunt's house (the one who originally masterminded the birthday surprise). So this was what one would expect to see and hear had they been standing on the hill in front of my house, watching: flurry of footsteps, kids shrieking and yelling, ladies juggling food containers, car engines coming to life and streaks of flashlight swinging to and fro as each and every person sought to help relocate the event to a different house. Boy, were we a noisy bunch of people!

The event started with a quick speech and blessing from the new hosts of the party, followed by as usual, everyone rushing to the dinner table to be one of the first lucky few who get the best bites. Hehehe, well what can I say? Some of us folks LOVE food!

.Right: my aunts couldn't help but "network" during the blessing event.

It was a good event, especially the birthday surprise cake. Lots of folks came by to bid my grandaunt happy birthday, bringing along some gift. However the event came to an early end as majority of the folks went home for an early shut eye. Most of the folks who attended were also the same ones who were going on the roadtrip with us.
